Drugged Driving

Did you know that you can get arrested for "driving under the influence" (DUI) without having an ounce of alcohol in your blood? lol i didn't But when my moms friend's son got arrested for being under the "influence" of prescription drugs, I learned something new. It didn't take long to discover that many states consider any drug that causes one to fail a sobriety field test to be cause for getting a DUI arrest as noted here:
According to the laws, a DUI arrest can be made for driving under the influence of either alcohol or drugs. This could be particularly important to know as we head into the Christmas season and many states up their use of road blocks and random drug testing of drivers. If you think you are safe because you have not been drinking and don't feel drunk. THINK AGAIN!Some people don't drink but engage in taking other medications, including tranquilizers, when under stress. Some only take sedatives sporadically or when under extreme stress during the holidays - and don't take drugs at any other time of the year. Other people take asthma or allergy medications that can cause drowsiness. Because there are often more police out on the streets during the Christmas season, stopping those who seem impaired, this might be the time to be sure you know the laws about DUI arrests and drug use, even normal prescription drugs. How many people assume a DUI arrest always means driving while drunk?
So please once again think twice before entering a car whether you have been drinking or even if u have taken a prescription drug BE CAREFUL!

TANK YOU :p

P.S
1,001 people a year are GUILTY-of-DWI.

The Dangers Of Drunk Driving

In 1999 a young woman was driving home from a birthday party when she was struck by an 18 year old High School student, Reggie Stephi who had been out drinking beer with his buddies. That woman is know by the name Jacqueline Saburido. Jacqueline was in a car with some friends when their vehicle was struck by Reggie's. Jacqueline was pinned in the passenger seat in the front of the vehicle. Within a few minutes the car caught fire and Jacqueline was burned on over 60% of her body. Jacqueline, who is from Venezuela, came to the United States to study English. Two of Jacquelines friends, Laura Guerrero and Natalia Chpytchak Bennett were killed in this accident. Jacquelines's hands were so badly burned that she lost the use of them. She also lost her hair, her left eyelid along with much of her vision, her nose and both of her ears. Jacqueline has been through more than forty operations and is not done yet.Jacqueline and her father now live in Kentucky where she undergoes skin grafts and specialists are working to rebuild her right hand. She has also been able to resume her studies."
Although alcohol-related traffic deaths have been on the decline in recent years, the belief of highway deaths due to alcohol impaired drivers is so predictable each holiday period that many state highway patrol departments issue highway fatal accident "projections" each year that will turn out to be accurate.A driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.10 or greater is seven times more likely to be involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash than is a driver who has not consumed alcoholic beverages, and a driver with an alcohol concentration of 0.15 or greater is about 25 times more likely.Basically, the more you drink the more likely you are to have an accident, and a fatal one. The same applies for the likelihood of having any vehicle accident, fatal or otherwise.
DON’T drink drive and risk other people’s safety.

effects of not wearing your seat belt

Please note this blog is not to scare the reader or encourage the reader to change their ways. It is to show you the outcome of not wearing a safety belt and the life changing experiences that can and will occur.

Through out my whole eighteen years of life I have never once thought about wearing my safety belt until about a year in a half ago. It was October of 2008 and the air was so crisp it felt like icicles hitting my lungs. As i entered the car I got a terrible feeling of nausea to the point where i felt like i was going to vomit on the cold cement ground that lay beneath me. Yet I blocked out the feeling and persisted in getting into the car for i knew we were only going around the block. As we stopped at the corner store i awaited for my boyfriend and friends to get back into the vehicle and at this point i felt as if the world was spinning around me. I remember resting my head back on the head rest and closing my eyes for what seemed to be only a minute, yet before i knew it we were driving again. We were less than five minutes away the house when my vision started to get blurry and that very second i knew something was wrong. As i looked up from looking at the floor mat i saw a black vehicle coming straight at us. There was no way to avoid it....
I remember the stinging of my face hitting the windshield and the warmth of my blood dripping from the abrasion on the left side of my head. The sounds of the sirens of the ambulance and police was a reality that I was not in good condition. I remember reaching for my head and feeling glass. As i entered the ambulance they immediately placed a cold white cloth on my head and began asking me what i thought were ridiculous questions. When i arrived to the hospital, I immediately was sought to a room where an examiner came in an told me i was to get a CAT scan as soon as possible to see if i had any brain injuries etc. I remember watching the clock go from seconds to minutes and then hours. Before i knew it 6 hours went by and i was finally released from the hospital
After that experience i would have to say i DO indeed where my seat belt every time I get into a vehicle.

Once again,
Please note this story is not to scare you into reality or to change your opinion about seat belt safety but please next time you get into a vehicle think about the world around you and your loved ones. Would it be right to depart this life at such a young in age? Achieve and set goals in your life to help you to succeed but first wear your seat belt so you have a chance in life.

Thank You
-S.B.
