Please note this blog is not to scare the reader or encourage the reader to change their ways. It is to show you the outcome of not wearing a safety belt and the life changing experiences that can and will occur.
Through out my whole eighteen years of life I have never once thought about wearing my safety belt until about a year in a half ago. It was October of 2008 and the air was so crisp it felt like icicles hitting my lungs. As i entered the car I got a terrible feeling of nausea to the point where i felt like i was going to vomit on the cold cement ground that lay beneath me. Yet I blocked out the feeling and persisted in getting into the car for i knew we were only going around the block. As we stopped at the corner store i awaited for my boyfriend and friends to get back into the vehicle and at this point i felt as if the world was spinning around me. I remember resting my head back on the head rest and closing my eyes for what seemed to be only a minute, yet before i knew it we were driving again. We were less than five minutes away the house when my vision started to get blurry and that very second i knew something was wrong. As i looked up from looking at the floor mat i saw a black vehicle coming straight at us. There was no way to avoid it....
I remember the stinging of my face hitting the windshield and the warmth of my blood dripping from the abrasion on the left side of my head. The sounds of the sirens of the ambulance and police was a reality that I was not in good condition. I remember reaching for my head and feeling glass. As i entered the ambulance they immediately placed a cold white cloth on my head and began asking me what i thought were ridiculous questions. When i arrived to the hospital, I immediately was sought to a room where an examiner came in an told me i was to get a CAT scan as soon as possible to see if i had any brain injuries etc. I remember watching the clock go from seconds to minutes and then hours. Before i knew it 6 hours went by and i was finally released from the hospital
After that experience i would have to say i DO indeed where my seat belt every time I get into a vehicle.
Once again,
Please note this story is not to scare you into reality or to change your opinion about seat belt safety but please next time you get into a vehicle think about the world around you and your loved ones. Would it be right to depart this life at such a young in age? Achieve and set goals in your life to help you to succeed but first wear your seat belt so you have a chance in life.
Thank You
